Sure, the laptop on its own works well enough for older titles like Diablo III, especially on the laptop’s tiny 1366×728-resolution display, but forget about more graphics-intensive modern games on an external 1080p monitor.

That just wouldn’t cut it for proper PC gaming. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from AKiTiO Node Titan Thunderbolt 3 eGPU Enclosure + AMD Radeon RX 580 Graphics Card Bundle. My desire to power up a laptop with an external graphics card began in 2015, when I set out on a quest to get back into PC gaming-a beloved pastime I’d neglected since childhood.īut the only PC I had at the time was a 2011 Lenovo ThinkPad X220 laptop with Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. I'm very pleased so far with this purchase. It was a plug and play setup and I had it up and running in about 10 mins. It did seem large at first but upon consideration, I understand that room provides future upgradability. Performance is good.many times the graphics abilities built into my Mini. This was only apparent to me because I'm using it with a silent Mac Mini.

The eGPU enclosure has a built-in power supply so only a standard 3-prong power cable connects the unit to power (no external large power brick.) The unit is near-silent at idle but there is a little fan hum if you listen closely.

The AKiTiO enclosure is extremely well built and provides both the power and cooling requirements for a more powerful graphics card upgrade at a later date if needed. The card must be inserted in the eGPU enclosure which is a simple plugin that requires no tools. While both units are shipped together they are in their own individual packaging. Reviewer: HappyMac53 Location: NC Age: Over 65 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 A well built eGPU I received my AKiTiO Node Titan Thunderbolt 3 eGPU Enclosure with Radeon RX 580 GPU quickly, only a couple of days after placing my order. I bought it here because everything I have bought from OWC over the years has been 100% compatible with any Mac I have used it for. The good part is I am getting 60fps in World of Warcraft. My unit is connected to a Mac mini which I do power off and I didn't want the eGPU on 24/7. The power switch is a tad confusing, in that obviously it needs to be on for the unit to work, but you also have to turn it off when you turn off the connected computer, or the fans in the eGPU run constantly. With one set, the fans on my GPU would never turn on, with the other, the fans worked fine. One set worked and the other did not, no clue why. The only thing that caused me pause was the additional power cables there are 2 sets of cables: two 2 prong and two 4 prong, for a 6 prong plug on the GPU.

Fortunately it is really easy to install a GPU in this device. The instructions are almost completely useless. The included TB3 cable is pretty short so this also limits where you put the unit. I was going to put it on my desk but ended up putting it on the floor under my desk which works fine. Not really a problem, but it's huge: maybe 12 inches long, 10 inches high and about 6 inched wide. Rating: 4/5 My first eGPU DecemSeems to be a good product with a couple issues.
